Pangong Lake
Pangong Lake, sitting at a staggering 4,350 metres above sea level, is one of the most mesmerising sights in all of Ladakh and indeed, all of India. Stretching 134 kilometres in length, with nearly 60% of it lying across the border in Tibet, this vast high-altitude lake is famous for its water that shifts through an almost magical spectrum of colours through the day from deep sapphire blue to turquoise to emerald green all set against bare, rust-coloured mountains and a vast open sky. Made world-famous by Bollywood, Pangong is far more breathtaking in person than any screen can capture. Sitting by its shores in the thin mountain air, watching the colours change and the silence settle around you, is one of those rare travel experiences that feels less like sightseeing and more like a encounter with something infinite.
